How to Use the EPF Calculator
India's EPF is one of the most powerful savings vehicles an employee has, because your employer effectively adds a second deposit for every one you make. Enter your monthly basic salary plus dearness allowance, your current EPF balance (if any), the number of years until you plan to withdraw, the latest EPFO interest rate, and any extra voluntary (VPF) contribution โ then press Calculate EPF Growth.
The key insight: the employer's 12% is not all yours to keep as EPF โ 8.33% (up to โน1,250 per month on the โน15,000 wage ceiling) is diverted to the pension scheme (EPS), and only the remainder flows into your EPF account. On a โน25,000 basic, for example, your employer adds โน1,750/month to EPF while โน1,250 builds your pension โ this calculator applies that split automatically.
Because contributions arrive monthly and interest compounds on the growing balance, the yearly table shows the snowball: later years add far more interest than the first few. Small VPF top-ups are surprisingly powerful too โ even โน2,000/month extra compounds into a large sum over a 30-year career.
A reality check: this is a planning projection, not a promise โ it assumes your salary and the interest rate stay constant, while in real life both change. Also remember withdrawals before 5 years of continuous service can be taxable.
