🔥 Calorie Calculator

Find your daily calorie needs for weight loss, maintenance or gain.

What is a calorie? A calorie (kcal) is a unit of food energy. Your body needs a certain number each day to maintain its weight; eating fewer creates a deficit for weight loss, while eating more creates a surplus for weight gain.

Daily calories for your goal
–
BMR (at complete rest)–
Maintenance (TDEE)–
Target intake–

Estimates based on the Mifflin-St Jeor equation. Individual needs vary.

Tip: calculate first — your result is included when you share.

How to Use the Calorie Calculator

Your body burns calories all day — even while you sleep. A calorie calculator estimates how many calories you need each day using two well-known numbers: your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate), the energy you burn at complete rest, and your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure), which adds your activity on top of BMR.

This calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, the formula most dietitians consider the most accurate for the general population. Enter your age, gender, height, weight and activity level, choose your goal, and press Calculate Calories. You'll get your BMR, your maintenance calories, and your daily target for losing, maintaining or gaining weight.

The maths behind weight change is simple: a daily deficit of about 500 kcal typically leads to roughly 0.5 kg of fat loss per week, while a 500 kcal surplus leads to similar gain. That's why the "lose weight" goal subtracts 500 kcal from your maintenance number.

Treat the result as a starting point, not a prescription. Metabolism varies with muscle mass, hormones, medical conditions and even sleep. Track your weight for two to three weeks at the target intake and adjust up or down by 100–200 kcal if you're not moving toward your goal — and check your BMI alongside for the full picture.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is BMR?

BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) is the number of calories your body burns at complete rest just to keep you alive — breathing, circulation, brain function. It typically accounts for 60–70% of daily calorie burn.

What is TDEE?

TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) is your BMR plus all activity: exercise, walking, work and even fidgeting. It is the number of calories that maintains your current weight.

How many calories should I eat to lose weight?

A safe starting target is your TDEE minus 300–500 kcal per day, which usually gives 0.3–0.5 kg of fat loss per week. Very low intakes (under 1200 kcal for most adults) should be medically supervised.

Is the Mifflin-St Jeor equation accurate?

It is the most validated prediction equation for healthy adults, usually within about 10% of lab-measured values. Very muscular, very obese or elderly people may see larger errors.

Do I need to count calories forever?

No. Many people count for a few weeks to learn portion sizes, then switch to habit-based eating. The calculator's real value is giving you a realistic target to start from.
