How to Use the PPF Calculator
PPF rewards one thing above all: consistency. Enter the amount you plan to deposit each year (up to โน1,50,000), keep the interest rate at the current 7.1% unless the government revises it, choose 15 years โ or 20/25 if you plan to extend โ and press Calculate Maturity. You will see the maturity value, your total deposits, the interest earned, and a year-by-year table.
Two things most people miss. First, timing: deposits made before April 5 earn interest for the whole financial year, so a lump sum early beats twelve monthly drips for PPF (unlike a SIP). Second, the extension: after 15 years you can extend in 5-year blocks and keep earning tax-free interest โ the 20 and 25-year options above show how dramatically those extra years compound.
PPF will not make you rich quickly โ that is not its job. Its job is the safe, tax-free foundation of a portfolio. A common split: PPF for guaranteed long-term savings, plus a SIP for market-linked growth. Together they balance safety and returns better than either alone.
Note: the government revises the PPF rate periodically โ if it changes from 7.1%, just update the rate field. For the pure compounding math behind these numbers, see our Compound Interest Calculator.
